U.S. Department of Commerce's “Business Information Service For The Newly Independent States” (BISNIS) Resumes Activities In Kazakhstan

November 22, 2006

Astana, Kazakhstan. In October 2006, the U.S. Department of Commerce resumed its Business Information Service for the Newly Independent States (BISNIS) program in Kazakhstan. BISNIS was established in 1992 to promote business collaboration between companies in the U.S. and the former Soviet Union, to promote U.S. exports of goods and services and to support investments. Since its inception over a decade ago, BISNIS has facilitated more than $3 billion worth of U.S. exports and overseas investments. The new BISNIS office, based in Astana, will complement the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service office in Almaty.

BISNIS provides a variety of programs for local organizations looking to facilitate economic development with U.S. businesses. “ExpoLink Eurasia” enables Kazakhstani companies to search a database of U.S. suppliers of equipment, goods and services who have placed their information on the BISNIS Russian website to establish partnerships with NIS companies. “Trade and Tenders” enables Kazakhstani companies interested in importing U.S. goods, equipment, technology or services, or willing to become a distributor of a U.S. firm to send their request to a wide network of U.S. companies. And the “Search for Partners” program enables Kazakhstani companies to develop joint projects with U.S. companies in a variety of ways (franchising, joint production or sale of products, development of new technologies, or to establish a long-term cooperation with a U.S. company).

BISNIS also supports Russian and English publications, websites and email list-serves. For example, “BISNIS Vestnik” provides information on new trends in leading U.S. industries, interviews with established U.S. entrepreneurs doing business in the NIS, sources of finance to trade with the U.S., as well as other useful information on U.S. government programs, conferences, seminars, etc.

BISNIS Country Representatives can provide more detailed information on BISNIS programs, including questionnaires for companies that wish to participate in BISNIS programs, back issues of Vestnik, articles, information and useful links. BISNIS clients may also receive useful information via e-mail list serve.
