AMERICAN CHOREOGRAPHER BRINGS BROADWAY TO AKTOBE

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce a performance of three numbers from different Broadway musicals on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Aktobe Oblast Philharmonic. The production, which is the result of a series of master classes conducted by visiting American choreographer Lewis Whitlock, will be performed by a talented group of Aktobe music and drama students. The three numbers are from the musicals Damn Yankees, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
Lewis Whitlock, who was invited to Kazakhstan by the U.S. Embassy, holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in the field of Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Mr. Whitlock was awarded the Minneapolis-St. Paul Twin City Mayor's Public Arts Award and was nominated by Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich to serve on the Advisory Council of the Perpich School for the Arts. He has also served as a Minneapolis Arts Commissioner. He has a distinguished history of directing educational theater, including producing performances at McNeese State University, Louisiana State University, St. Cloud State University, Mankato State University, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and Carleton College. His international theater experience includes a Fulbright grant program teaching jazz dance in Riga, Latvia, as well as a previous trip to Kazakhstan as a Cultural Envoy for the American Embassy in which he conducted musical theater workshops at the National Academy of Music in Astana, at the Theater of Musical Comedy in Karaganda, and at the Music College in Pavlodar.
The performance will be held at the Aktobe Oblast Philharmonic on July 21 (31 Pobeda Avenue, Aktobe) at 7:00 p.m. It will be free of charge and open to the public.
