American Jazz Singer Roseanna Vitro and the “Jazz I Am” Quartet Perform in Astana and Almaty

The U.S. Embassy-sponsored concert of American jazz singer Roseanna Vitro and the “Jazz I Am” quartet will be held in Astana on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00pm at the National Opera and Ballet Theater.  The band will also perform at the Almaty Jazz Festival on April 23, 2009 at 7:00pm at the Palace of Youth.

Roseanna Vitro (http://www.roseannavitro.com) is an acclaimed performer, recording artist, and vocal instructor.  She has presented numerous concerts and workshops around the world, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil, New Zealand, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, Cyprus, India, Slovenia, South Africa, Portugal, and Lebanon; and also at jazz venues through the United States.  Ms. Vitro has also released 11 critically-acclaimed recordings.  Her latest album, Half Note (The Delirium Blues Project:  Serve or Suffer) is a blues-based recording of jazz and pop repertoire.  Ms. Vitro is currently the Vocal Chair for the Vocal Jazz Program at New Jersey City University and the Wachovia Gifted Teens Program at the New Hersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey.

) also includes Dean Johnson (bass), Joel Holmes (piano), and Tim Horner (drums).   The ensemble’s flavors include swing from Duke Ellington to Bill Evans, blues from the Ray Charles Songbook, and exotic melodies and rhythms that form world music, spanning the globe from Brazil to India.  Band members are based in New York City and have toured extensively, playing at major festivals and workshops and spreading the gospel of improvisational music. 

The performance in Astana will be held at the National Opera and Ballet Theater (10 Akzhayik Street) at 7:00pm.  The Almaty performance will take place at the Children’s Palace (114 Dostyk Avenue) at 7:00pm.
