Special Envoy Cumber Visits Astana

Mr. Sada Cumber, U.S. Special Envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), will visit Astana, Kazakhstan on January 8-10. While in Astana, Mr. Cumber will meet with Kazakhstani government officials and religious leaders. At 16:45 on January 9, Mr. Cumber will discuss his visit with journalists before touring Astana’s Central Mosque and Islamic Center.
Appointed by President George W. Bush on March 3, 2008, Mr. Cumber is in Astana to further his role in promoting improved dialogue and understanding between the United States and Muslim communities around the world. As Special Envoy, he regularly employs his multicultural background and extensive business, social, and political skills to promote cooperation across cultures, to support international economic development, and help advance meaningful dialogue among the world’s religious communities.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Cumber was an entrepreneur and investor based in Austin, Texas, where he founded eleven companies in technology-based industries. Born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1951, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and a Master’s Degree in History, both from the University of Karachi. Mr. Cumber came to the United States in 1978 and has been an American citizen since 1986.
