U.S. Embassy Gives Vehicles to Police to Increase Counter-Narcotics Capacity

During a ceremony at the Ministry of Interior on October 28, Ambassador Richard E. Hoagland transferred 21 vehicles worth $279,000 to the counter-narcotics divisions of Departments of Interior of Astana, Almaty, and 14 oblasts throughout Kazakhstan.  The vehicles will help strengthen the capacity of the divisions to combat narco-trafficking by allowing its officers to patrol high-risk areas and respond to incidents in a timely manner.  Vice-Minister Amantai Aubakirov accepted the vehicles on behalf of the ministry and presented keys to representatives from each of the divisions.   Transcript    Press Release
