U.S. Speaker Promotes Cooperation of Government, Business and Civil Society

From Oct. 7-13, 2007, U.S. Embassy Branch Almaty hosted the visit of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expert Holly Wise to Kazakhstan. The speaker shared her knowledge and experiences on CSR and public-private sector partnerships with the business commmunity, NGOs, universities, and journalists in Almaty, Astana, and Atyrau. One of the highlights of the program included a visit to Eurasian National University in Astana, which has an innovative M.A. program in Environmental Management and Engineering, co-sponsored by AES, Eurasia Foundation, and USAID. The program resulted in a deeper understanding of CSR principles among journalists in Almaty and the start of a dialogue on environmental issues in Atyrau. As follow-up, PAS will organize a Voluntary Visitor program for the head of "Saryarka" social enterprise foundation to learn about economic development strategies in the United States. In addition, the U.S. Embassy discussed support for the American Corner in Atyrau with Tengizchevroil.
