At a two day conference in Aktau from Aug 1-2, 2009, a group of 30 alumni of various United States government-sponsored programs from Aktobe, Atyrau, Uralsk, and Aktau came together to form the Western Kazakhstani Alumni Association (WKAA).  The conference was organized by Muskie alumnus Yertore Orazay.  Two Muskie alumni, Geniyat Issin and Sergey Tsoy, explained how they established and sustained the Alumni Leaders League in Almaty, and U.S. Embassy representatives Balapan Ibrasheva and Maira Tungatarova discussed, respectively, how to create an alumni association and how to promote U.S. educational exchanges throughout Kazakhstan.

Today, there are nearly 4,000 U.S. exchange alumni associations globally, formed by some of the millions of alumni of U.S. government exchanges from around the world.  Forming an alumni association offers alumni opportunities to positively affect their communities through the knowledge and experience gained during their exchange programs.  We wish the newly-born WKAA great success!
