Ambassador Meets FLEX Students
Through the FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) program, one hundred Kazakhstani high school students have an opportunity to spend a year living with American families and studying at American high schools. FLEX is offered to Kazakhstan's youngest citizens with the goal of supporting a generation of future leaders. On July 1, Ambassador Ordway met with FLEX program finalists from northern Kazakhstan who will soon be traveling to the U.S. For many young people, the FLEX program is life-changing: they develop leadership skills, improve their English, and become interested in public and community service.
FLEX is a scholarship program funded by American taxpayers and administered by American Councils on behalf of the U.S. Department of State through funding from the Freedom Support Act. The program was created in 1992 out of former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley's conviction that the best way to ensure long-lasting peace and understanding between the U.S. and Eurasia is to enable young people to learn about democracy firsthand through experiencing it.
