The Coordinating Committee of the Public Private Economic Partnership Initiative (PPEPI), a partnership formed between the public and private sectors of the United States and Kazakhstan, held its first meeting in Astana on April 1, 2009. Expressing the group’s enthusiasm at a press conference following the meeting, Ambassador Hoagland said that the PPEPI “further demonstrates the true partnership that has developed between our two countries over the years. The exchange of ideas, expertise, and experience as envisioned in this partnership will enhance the economic growth and prosperity of the country and people of Kazakhstan.”
First launched with the direct support of Prime Minster Karim Masimov in June 2008, the collaborative initiative will harness the expertise of the public and private partners to foster dialogue and prepare policy recommendations designed to facilitate business, and improve the overall investment climate in Kazakhstan. PPEPI’s policy recommendations will specifically focus on reducing corruption, promoting the rule of law and increasing transparency, diversifying Kazakhstan’s economy, and improving regional trade in Central Asia. “The United States is fully committed to this important initiative because we are convinced it will further strengthen Kazakhstan’s economic well-being and improve the livelihoods of the people of Kazakhstan,” said Ambassador Hoagland
The PPEPI is administered by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan and jointly funded by its partners, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Kazakhstan.
